Get to Know Noah Samuels

We would like to welcome our newest team member, Noah Samuels. Noah is the brain behind the budget.

Get to know a few fun facts about Noah.

Where are you from? I am of Italian, Romanian, Ukrainian, Polish, Austrian, and Swiss-French heritage and was born and raised in Oak Park, Illinois, home of Dan Castellaneta, the voice of Homer Simpson. There was some…unpleasantness; I can never go back. (Don’t worry, that’s just a Simpsons quote. Ask Dave – he knows!)

Do you have any pets? My pets are my house plants. They don’t all have names. One is called Mack The Plant. Another, a fig tree, I call Butch Fig.

What do you like to do in your leisure time? I spend a lot of my leisure time with my girlfriend trying to come up with better terms for what to call each other besides “boyfriend” and “girlfriend.” I mean, what are we, 13 years old? “Lover” sounds sleazy, “significant other” has way too many syllables, and “main squeeze” implies the existence of other “squeezes,” which belies our monogamous status. We’re hoping for a solution by 2021. Aside from that, I enjoy performing music for senior citizens in retirement communities, busking at Green Lake, hiking and backpacking in the Cascades, and watching classic car reviews on YouTube.

What is your favorite thing about the Pacific Northwest? My favorite thing about the Pacific Northwest are the hills and mountains. Seriously, you have to understand, I spent the first 38 years of my life on a concrete pancake called Metropolitan Chicago. It still blows my mind that land can do what it does here.

What shows do you binge watch? Patriot on Amazon is quite possibly the best show I have ever seen. The opening credits for Season 2, replacing Vashti Bunyan and Super 8 home movies with Beastie Boys and cliché character shots, are a disappointing concession to the proverbial suits. But we’ll always have Season 1, a virtually perfect work of televisual art.

What is your favorite food? I love raw garlic. I would eat it with just about anything, for every meal. Unfortunately, I also have enough social intelligence to realize how bad of an idea that is. Thus, garlic and I are a classic love-versus-duty plot line, exchanging furtive, longing glances across the produce section at PCC while I fill my cart with non-offensive-smelling groceries, popping a piece of Dentyne Ice Arctic Chill into my mouth in preparation for the exchange of pleasantries with the cashier.

What is the best conference you’ve ever attended? TEDx Seattle 2018. And not just because they’re an Evia client. It was my first TED event, and the whole experience was intense and amazing. Also, my main squeeze was one of the speakers!
