Evia Unite: We Adopted A Street

For our March Evia Unite event, employees of Evia participated in the City of Seattle’s Adopt a Street program to clean up a street in our Ballard neighborhood. After being assigned an area on Shilshole Way between 20th and 24th, a group of employees headed down on a sunny afternoon and cleared nearly four bags full of trash off the street.

The Adopt a Street program makes it easy to participate, providing two ways to help. As a Traditional Adopter, you pledge to clean a specified area four times a year for two years. A Special Adopter, which is what Evia did for this event, is a single instance where you adopt a chosen area and clean. Once an application is submitted, the city provides you with garbage bags, sharps containers, trash pickers, gloves and safety vests. And after you’re finished, all you have to do is call the city and tell them where to pick up the bags.

Our team lucked out with sunshine for our Adopt a Street day, and according to all that participated, it felt really good to make a difference in our community. According to our Creative Director, Colleen Ando, “I never knew it would be so much fun to pick up trash, but it is, especially with those pickers and a fun team doing it with you.”

Evia Unite is the philanthropic arm of Evia. Through the Evia Unite program, employees are encouraged to participate directly in volunteer activities and are given time during work hours to be involved.
